By the time they are learning first grade math, kids should be ready to tackle things like the relationship between addition and subtraction, the concept of adding and subtracting two-digit numbers and learning to count beyond 100. Being able to compare numbers as larger, smaller or equal to each other is also important, as it provides the basis for recognizing whether or not the answer to a computation problem is the correct one. Children need to be allowed to master these and other essential math skills before being asked to move on to new ideas, but the modern classroom setting does not always allow for this. As focus on core curriculum begins to push complex ideas into lower grade levels, kids are expected to learn more at a younger age. First grade math still contains many fundamental concepts essential for understanding higher math, and therefore should not be rushed through. By letting a child try and re-try each new thing as it comes, online math games can give the extra time and practice that struggling students need to achieve success.

Truly, your little cute child has all the capacity to learn virtually anything while he is yet innocent-looking infant. According to researches, children who were trained and developed during these informative years proved to be more alert and more active in school than those who were not. I am not saying that if you do not train your child during these early years will totally be a failure. No child is born a genius, and none is born a fool. Other children have inherited skills and talents from their parents that contribute to their confidence as they grow up. Others too who were not pre-schooled can learn things easily. Teaching equations to kindergarten children needs to be a hands on activity using tangible resources where children can explore, experiment and self correct. At this age, printed workbooks and worksheets should be avoided and manipulative materials used instead. So bring out all the counters, figurines, shapes and blocks you can find because this is the way in which this age group of children learn best. A simple game with a dice and counters can teach equations. Throw the dice and put out the required number of counters. Throw again and do the same. Then physically put all of the counters together to show one group and count them again (addition).
